Sutton Innovation Inc is the SR&ED consulting arm of Rob Farrow, CPA – a tax and accounting practice for innovative technology companies.

Canada’s Scientific Research & experimental Development program (“SR&ED”) is an area of tax that requires collaboration between CPAs and technology specialists. Each member of the team has a critical role in our success.

We also provide SR&ED documentation support, online systems design and after-the-fact bookkeeping services to our SR&ED and tax clients through

In 1985 Rob Farrow began working at the Canada Revenue Agency in Victoria, BC and soon became involved in the fledgling SR&ED tax credit program as a financial auditor.

In 1990 he left to practice public accounting with early stage technology companies in BC’s capital region, which he did for about about 10 years. After selling his practice and moving to Vancouver he incorporated CFO 2 Go Financial Inc, to continue providing service to early stage technology company companies.

Rob sold CFO 2 Go to a local public company and joined PwC in their Vancouver SR&ED practice in 2005 as a manager. During 5 years with PwC, he had the opportunity to work with some of the most skilled SR&ED and tax practitioners around – including Mel Machado, former head of the CRA’s National SR&ED Directorate.

in 2012 Rob formed Sutton Innovation Inc with Tom Mitchell (a professional engineer) and Bob Sutton (a software specialist and fellow PwC alumni).

Our firm combines significant understanding of the tax and regulatory environment, solid engineering expertise – and incredible client service.

Our team includes some of the most skilled SR&ED practitioners in Canada. Unlike a great many practitioners we are not simply technical writers or form-fillers…

Our process starts with a scoping session to determine eligibility. If – and only if – we feel your company is engaged in eligible R&D, we begin finding documentary evidence of the work. If your company is doing eligible work, the documentation exists. For many practitioners this is too much work and they’d rather hope that your claim doesn’t get audited.

We stand behind all of our claims and provide full support in the case of audit.

Once the draft project descriptions are ready we conduct an objective review with our own technical staff and with our client’s technical team. A claim is only submitted if we’re all comfortable with the content.
